The new rail cars purchased by the SF MUNI transit system “are safe,” said a company spokesperson. “They operate as designed, they were certified by CPUC [California Public Utilities Commission] and they’ve gone through six months of tests before we put them in service.”
This was little comfort to the elderly woman who was dragged under the OPTO train after her hand was trapped in the closing doors on one of the cars.
She was seriously injured but miraculously survived. Watch the MUNI platform official (Station Manager?) try to help by shouting at her and walking away as the train takes off.
