Every day on the TTC, someone gets hurt, harassed, or assaulted.
Unfortunately, it’s no real surprise. The TTC is the busiest transit system in Canada and the third-largest in North America (After the New York City Transit Authority and the Mexico City Metro).
Things Happen. Especially when you move more than 1.5 million people every day.
That’s why it’s important to have trained professionals, on scene, able to provide immediate aid, support, and deterrence.
Since the pandemic began, New York City, like Toronto, has seen an increase in mental-health-related incidents.
This article from the New York Post highlights the alarming upward trend of subway users getting pushed onto the tracks.
TTC Subway Guards are specially trained to identify and watch out for potentially suicidal and mentally ill patrons.
The TTC’s decision to eliminate Subway Guards is a total step in the wrong direction. We need more Transit Workers looking out for our safety, not fewer.
If you agree, please sign the petition to Save the Guards.
